About the HJ Crosby Community Band of Dexter

The HJ Crosby Community Band of Dexter (formerly the Dexter, Maine, Community Band) is comprised of band members of varying ages and abilities from throughout the greater Dexter, ME, region. This wind, brass, and percussion ensemble, in its fourth year, practices weekly and plays for various events in Dexter and its surrounding communities. The musical repertoire is varied, something new, something old, and is constantly growing, including simple, advanced, and adapted arrangements.

The band is named for Dexter native Harold Josiah Crosby (1886-1920) who personified the music of the early days of a patriotic nation through his Regimental Marches. His music is central to the band's musical selections and are featured in all its concerts. Because the band holds the rights to his music, complete scores are available for purchase from the band. For a complete list of his music and to download an order form, click here.

The band has recently expanded its outreach to Monson, ME, where a new group of band members is forming to serve that area to the North of Dexter. The group currently meets for instruction on Thursdays at 3 PM in the Monson Community Center.

Some  members of the Community Band also perform in the Dexter Brass Ensemble.  Music is specifically arranged for either a Quintet or Quartet. There is no requirement to be a member of the Concert Band in order to be in the Dexter Brass Ensemble.
