Maine 2020 Bicentennial Band Camp

Maine celebrates its 200th statehood anniversary in this year. The Harold J Crosby Maine 2020

Bicentennial Band Camp will take place September 11-13 in Dexter, Maine. The Band Camp usually honors its namesake and some other Maine band composers and arrangers, but this year will have an historic perspective using the band music celebration from a century ago.

William Chapman's Maine Centennial March for Band and chorus along with Harold J Crosby's Over the Top, RB Hall's “De Molay” Commandery and other special selections from 100 years ago will honor the event. The official State of Maine song for band, with the original arranger's updated parts from 50 years ago, is part of the experience of band musicians having fun playing music.

Dr. Christian Whiljhelm

New Jersey Wind Symphony

Dr. Christian Whiljhelm, the former principal horn from the Boston Opera, Boston Ballet Orchestra and Richmond (VA) Symphony, will be our guest soloist and conductor. He'll perform Mozart's Concert Rondo for horn as well as Huckebey's Horn -a- Plenty with the musicians.

The band camp takes place in Dexter, Maine, Sept 11, 12, and 13 starting with a Friday evening gathering, first music read-through and pizza party. Saturday is for rehearsals, fun, food and a tour of the new 50-acre band camp grounds, 3000-square foot Pierce Rehearsal Hall, and other rustic camp facilities in Wellington. We end the weekend with Sunday AM dress rehearsal and a free public concert at 1:30 Sunday afternoon before bidding adieu to our musical companions.

The event takes place by generous donations of participants sponsors and has no cost for players. Unique Bed and Breakfast facilities from the area provide a wonderful rural Maine setting in early autumn weather.
